Type Locality and Naming

The type section is on the northern slope of Yingshan Hill at the boundary of Kalpin County and Wushi County, Xinjiang. The Yingshan Fm was named by Zhou Tianrong in 1990, and was published by Zhao Zhixin and Zhang Guizhi (1990).

Synonym: (鹰山组)


Lithology and Thickness

The Formation is composed of gray pelmicrite and algal clotted micrite limestone intercalated with micritic calcarenite and laminated micrite. In the type area, the Yingshan Fm is 163 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It rests conformably on the medium-bedded dolomite of the Penglaiba Fm

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the banded siliceous micrite at the base of the Dawangou Fm

Regional extent

The Yingshan Fm is widely exposed in Kalpin-Bachu, northern Tarim basin.

Fossils

This stratigraphic unit yields the conodont zones of Zhou et al. (1990) and Zhang (1991), including Serratognathodus diversus assemblage and Paroistodus originalis assemblage as well as trilobite Megalaspides sp.
